Art (Helfant) Appreciation
Today I'm spotlighting the work of Art Helfant ... because I can. Helfant worked mostly during the 1940s, providing "filler strips" to a variety of publishers, including Timely, All-American (DC), Nedor, Harvey, Novelty and more. Most of the features ran just one page, but a few were as long as 3 or 4 pages. The stories I'm featuring here were taken from Black Terror 26 (Phineas the Parrot), Target Comics volume 7 number 11 (Fraidy-Cat Phil & Two-Ton O'Toole) and volume 8 number 6 (Boitram the Boiglar & Heathcliff the Hobo). This is just the tip of the iceberg, and a search of both www.bailsprojects.com and www.comics.org will help you hunt-down more Helfant Humor.
